Perennially debated as the greatest player in the history of the sport, Australian Rod “Rocket” Laver is perhaps best known for being the only man to achieve the Grand Slam in the Open Era. He had to prove his mettle as a youngster being on the smaller side. He trained hard under legendary coach Harry Hopman, and would go on to become one of the most versatile players ever, mastering all five surfaces of his time: grass, hard, clay, carpet and wood.
