Just before custody of the top of mens’ tennis was transitioned into the willing hands of Andy Roddick and Leyton Hewitt, a couple of veterans reminded the fans of Arthur Ashe Stadium on a clear and cool evening that the old guard could still play a little tennis.

These veterans were Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi of course, and they held a combined 20 Grand Slam titles at the time of this classic match.

Sampras prevails in four epic sets 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) but would go on to lose the final to Lleyton Hewitt.
