Andy Roddick was speechless, admitting to a packed Arther Ashe stadium, “Oh, wow. For the first time in my career, I’m not sure what to say.”

Words weren’t really needed though. He left it all out on the court. As always, he emptied the tank and gave it his all in an emotional 6-7 (1), 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-4 loss to Juan Martin del Potro. The last match of his career. The momentum swings in the match perhaps mirrored some of the ups and downs of his career.

In the end though, Andy Roddick walks away from the game as one of the most accomplished American tennis players ever. He was adored and loved by legions of fans, and his parting words brought them to their feet one last time, “I know I certainly haven’t made it easy for you at times but I really do appreciate it and love you guys with all my heart. Hopefully I’ll come back to this place someday and see all of you again.”
